What to Expect From the Spring Statement

spring statement

Ahead of the Spring Statement next week we have been meeting with MPs, local government organisations as well as other Trade Associations to raise the profile of our members and the wider independent Hospitality Sector.

We continue to lobby for VAT reform for hospitality, Business Rates reform and an approach to NIC that takes size and turnover into consideration.

NCASS was mentioned in Parliament this week during a debate on Government support for family businesses for our work supporting independent hospitality and family-run street food businesses.

The Spring Statement is likely to be an update on the challenging economic situation and with a shrinking economy the government is considering significant spending cuts, including a 5% reduction in public spending.

It is however an opportunity for the Chancellor to demonstrate her commitment to economic revitalisation and support for small businesses. We will have to wait and see whether there are any fiscal measures to support businesses across the hospitality sector.

NCASS is asking for members’ help to encourage their local MPs to raise the importance of independent hospitality and catering businesses in Parliament, and to support our Independent Hospitality Week campaign.
