Oatopia is no simple food business. On a mission to pack a healthy and nutritious punch into every flapjack they produce, Oatopia have found their oat-based crusade proudly displayed on retail supermarket shelves across the country. Proving that snack foods can be a healthy implement as well as tasting amazing, they have racked up multiple Great Taste Awards and still attend a full calendar of festivals and events with the Oatopia van serving up goodness.
We were curious to find out just what makes this operation tick:
How do you go about reinventing the traditional flapjack?
At Oatopia, our journey began in 2012 with a simple mission: to craft a flapjack that’s delicious, melts in your mouth, and bursts with flavour as well as providing nutritious energy to fuel our daily activities and adventures. We’ve worked tirelessly to perfect our recipe, continually tweaking it and experimenting with new flavour profiles to keep our offerings fresh and exciting.
To date, we’ve created over 40 unique flavours, and we’re thrilled to announce that our latest creation, Pecan Pie, will be launching next year! Each recipe is a testament to our passion for quality and innovation, reimagining the traditional flapjack into something truly special.
Congratulations on another Great Taste award – how does it feel to receive such recognition?
We’re delighted to receive recognition with our latest Great Taste Award. It’s a wonderful acknowledgment of the care and dedication we put into crafting every Oatopia product. Over the past five years, we’ve been proud to win three Great Taste Awards, earning us the title of a Great Taste Producer.
This recognition highlights our commitment to creating high-quality flapjacks that stand out for their flavour, texture, and indulgence. It’s a rewarding milestone that motivates us to continue delivering products our customers love.
Favourite events to trade at?
This is a really hard question. I’d have to say our favourite events to trade at would be Henley Women’s Regatta or Ardrock Festival up in Yorkshire. But one we simply cannot forget is Goodwood Revival such a classic and vintage celebration!
Do you have a bestseller?
Our best seller by far is either an almond Bakewell flapjack,our Oatopia special porridge or your classic flat white!
How important is it to provide healthy food options at festivals and events?
Oatopia was born out of frustration with the lack of delicious and nutritionally-replenishing snacks on offer at events. We believe it’s so important to offer a healthy alternative for people and more so just giving people a choice. Oatopia offers a unique oat based menu with a range of delicious and healthy options for all day!. We cater for specialist diets inc. gluten free, vegetarian and vegan.
The value of spotting opportunities to grow and evolve the business?
We have already made a number of improvements throughout 2024, including a new ordering system to speed up and streamline the customer experience. This together with some new guest spots at a variety of events, has already grown in to new opportunities for 2025 with many new events confirmed.
Biggest challenges with running the Oatopia van?
Our biggest challenges to be honest is the weather. We’ve been extremely unlucky with weather at the events we’ve done this year which comes with so many challenges as we’ve faced most weather conditions this year!
What is the plan for the future?
To continue to drive the Oatopia name in to as many high end events as possible, the dream being, a full calendar all year round, not just the big festivals in peak season. Perhaps even a second catering unit, eventually!
