The Food Standards Agency have produced Technical Guidance on food allergen labelling. This includes details of the labelling requirements for Food Prepared for Direct Sale ( PPDS).
The requirements have been in force since October 2021.
Following a UK-wide consultation as a result of the tragic death of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, who died after suffering an allergic reaction to sesame in a baguette she had eaten.
Emily Miles, chief executive of the FSA, said: “Consistent and accurate labelling can be life-saving for those living with a food allergy or hypersensitivity. These new measures are vital as they provide information to hypersensitive consumers in a clear way.
