The Government announced on Monday changes to the rules regarding the isolation period for Covid-19. Pending two consecutive negative lateral flow tests on days five and day six, you are no longer required to isolate at home. However, guidance on the gov.uk website claims that people should remain cautious until day ten following a positive test and recommend working from home where possible and avoiding large groups and vulnerable people.
It is hoped that the reduced isolation period, which is expected to apply to some 70-80% of people, will encourage people back into retail and hospitality spaces, which they were avoiding due to isolation or for fear of catching the virus. According to UK Hospitality, pubs, bars, and restaurants lost out on an average of £10,000 in the week leading up to Christmas, with sales down by as much as 60% compared with the same period in 2019.
