Powerful Thinking

by Charlotte Anderson-Vile. | Jul 31, 2019

Following the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, the not-for-profit group, Powerful Thinking established their Festival Vision: 2025 campaign in a bid to reduce the live event industry’s impact on the environment by 50% by 2025. The Show Must Go On report is integral to Festival Vision: 2025, outlining practical solutions for the industry’s most environmentally-damaging practices.

Since its publication, 70 of the industry’s most notable festivals have signed the pledge; the report having brought “the most important conversation of our time” to the table.  Now, four years on and with the knowledge, education and perspective gained in that time, the not-for-profit group, Powerful Thinking, are set to create an updated version of The Show Must Go On Report, having exceeded their £25K Crowdfunding target, raising £28,665 in just 40 days.

‘As an industry, significant steps have been taken, technology is changing and there are many examples of innovation across the sector. It is now time to gather and share all of the most up to date information available so all event professionals can make the best decisions for their events and businesses.’

The comprehensive report, designed to ‘invigorate the vision’ and coming in 2020 will be written collaboratively by a cross-steering group including the Association of Festival Organisers (AFO), the Production Services Association (PSA), the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF), the National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA), and our very own The Nationwide Caterers Association (NCASS) who will be spearheading the chapter on reducing emissions which are a direct result of the food and drink provisions at live events; with a focus on single-use packaging, water use, de-forestation and land degradation waste.

Ahead of the report’s publication date, Powerful Thinking will also be hosting the third annual Festival Vision:2025 conference at The Showman’s Show on the 16th October; giving attendees the opportunity to learn more about the group’s agenda, meet the experts who’ll be writing the report, as well as event organisers and suppliers who are leading the way for a sustainable industry.

To book your place at The Showman’s Show, contact bethan@powerful-thinking.org.uk or sign up to Powerful Thinking newsletter for programme updates for the Festival Vision: 2025 conference at The Showman’s Show: www.powerful-thinking.org.uk/sign-up
