Uploading your Food Hygiene Rating

Food Hygiene Ratings help customers to make informed decisions about where to eat and drink. The better your rating, the more likely customers will feel confident in buying your products. Therefore, the sooner you make your rating available to potential customers, the sooner you will see an increase in profits.

Here are a few tips for finding your rating on the FSA website.

It can take between 4 and 6 weeks for your rating to be uploaded to the FSA website after your inspection. If you have been waiting longer than this, get in touch with your EHO.

When using the FSA search bar to find your rating, use the full address of the location in which you were inspected (as stated on your inspection form).

Use your exact business name as written on your registration form. Be aware that the search system is case sensitive, and spacing, spelling, punctuation and abbreviations can affect results. E.g. ‘company’ or ‘co.’, ‘limited’ or ‘ltd’, etc.

Uploading your rating to your NCASS Profile:

Follow the instructions below to insert your rating from the FSA website into your profile page.

Not been inspected?

You must wait 28 days after registering your business before you can trade. If you have not been inspected in this time, get in touch with your local authority to find out why.

Some business owners are not aware that they must register their business with their local authority. Make sure you have filled out a Food Business Registration Form. If you haven't, this will be the reason why you haven't been inspected.

You cannot carry over the Food Hygiene Rating of your business’ previous owner. You must be re-inspected when you take over ownership.

Mobile bars and coffee units are often told they do not need to be given a Food Hygiene Rating. This is not the case. Get in touch with your local authority to request an inspection if you have not had one within 28 days of registering your business.

Want to work at events?

Event organisers will make choices about who to hire for their events based on Food Hygiene Ratings. Organisers prefer to hire businesses with the highest ratings.

Ratings also show up on the Cater Search page on our website. Businesses with no visible rating could be assumed to have a low rating, and will therefore be less likely to be hired, so make sure your rating is visible.

Got a low rating?

At NCASS, we hope that our members can all achieve a Hygiene Rating of 5. If you want to know more about improving your hygiene score, visit our FHRS Hub.
