Coffee Shops set to take part in UK Coffee Week

UK Coffee Week

The Allegra Foundation’s UK Coffee Week takes place from 16th to 22nd April 2018 and encourages coffee shops in the UK to raise money for Project Waterfall.

Project Waterfall is an initiative designed to bring clean water facilities to coffee farmers and their communities across the world. There are 663 million people without access to safe, clean drinking water, and as there are over 500 billion cups of coffee consumed globally each year, the campaign aims to use the influence of the coffee industry to make a change for those in poverty.

Did you know? It takes 140l of water to make one cup of coffee!

Coffee shops who have signed up to the campaign are encouraged to fundraise in any way they’d like, from a 5p donation from every cup sold, to selling raffle tickets to win a coffee bundle or asking customers to enter a ‘Guess the Coffee Beans in the Jar’ competition with a £1 or £2 entry fee.

Last year’s UK Coffee Week saw Atkinson’s Coffee Roasters in Manchester hold a Northern Latte Art Throwdown, where baristas from northern counties battled to be crowned The King of the North (of Latte art).

Thousands of coffee shops have signed up to take part and they can be found by using the interactive map. Both independent and chain stores including Starbucks, Café Nero, Costa and Second Cup Coffee Company are set to take part.
