Bristol food scene named as best in the world

by Sophie Haigh | Nov 07, 2019

We’ve always known that Bristol boasts an exciting hub of independent food businesses and now too it seems that the experts agree - as the southern city has been voted ‘the best culinary destination in the world’ at The FoodTrekking Awards.

bristol wins foodtrekking award 2019

The World Food Travel Association’s FoodTrekking Awards, which took part in London this month “celebrate excellence and innovation in experiences for food and beverage-loving travellers.”

Bristol was the only UK city named as a semi-finalist in the category for ‘Best Food or Beverage Destination’ – which focuses heavily on destinations that lead with best practice and offer a unique and diverse food and beverage experience.

The opening of CARGO in Wapping Wharf created a vibrant community of independent food businesses, including Pizzarova, Pigsty and BOX-E, and with five Michelin star restaurants in the city, Bristol is now the UK city with the most stars outside of London.

Destination Bristol received £40m from the government’s Discover England fund to entice more visitors to the city and develop their food and beverage tourism.
