Ethical Vegan Eatery announced as Great Taste Award winners

by Sophie Haigh | Aug 20, 2019
Eve, Ethical Vegan Eatery, have been awarded with a Great Taste Award for their organic, gluten free sticky ginger cake.

Congratulations to NCASS member, Eve – Ethical Vegan Eatery, for being awarded the coveted 1-star Great Taste Award 2019.

Out of 12,772 products sent in from over 100 countries, judges praised Eve for creating a flavoursome food that delivers fantastic flavour for its organic, vegan, gluten free, refined sugar free sticky ginger loaf, claiming that the cake had a “lovely homemade feel about it, a lovely smooth texture and a great hit of ginger.”

Widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers, the products are judged by 500 experts, including food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs, buyers, retailers and producers, as well as journalists and food writers.

Shahilla Barok, founder of Eve, commented: “We decided to enter the Great Taste Awards because we believe in our cakes. They are not just healthy, accessible to those with intolerances and specific dietary needs, but they are full of flavour and have the same soft spongy texture as other cakes on the market…they really hit the spot!

“This award has us excited, proud and humbled and we cannot wait to celebrate by negotiating supply to large retailers and local health food outlets, as this has always been the vision for our cakes.”

Of the 12,772 entries that were entered into the Great Taste Awards this year, 208 were awarded a 3-star, 1,326 received a 2-star and 3,409 were awarded a 1-star accolade. The panel of judges this year included; cook, writer and champion of sustainable food, Melissa Hemsley, Kenny Tutt, MasterChef 2018 champion, author, Olia Hercules, chef and food writer, Gill Meller, Kavi Thakar from Dishoom, food writer and stylist, Georgina Hayden and author and chef, Zoe Adjonyoh, as well as food buyers from Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, Sourced Market and Partridges.

Judges will come together once more at the InterContinental Park Lane Hotel in London on Sunday 1st September to decide the deserving winners of the Great Taste Golden Fork trophies, before announcing the Great Taste Supreme Champion at the end of the night.
