Gas Safety Week round up

gas safety

This week we have spread awareness around the importance of safety with using LPG in catering.

We began with focusing on cylinders, sharing this Quick Guide to Cylinder Safety that walks you through everything you need to check before using a cylinder as well as tips to ensure best practice is carried out when using cylinders.

Then we recounted this Essential Safety Kit checklist that you should consider when using cylinders. We also shared a quiz on social media testing cylinder knowledge.

To complete our look at all things cylinders, we shared two variations of a guide dealing with the correct On / Off Procedures for using cylinders, one tailored to gazebo, tents and marquee settings and one tailored to vehicles and trailers.

Our focus then shifted to look at the LPG appliances caterers use. Beginning with our Quick Guide to LPG Appliances that goes over significant points to consider with the use / purchase of appliances, we shared another quiz on social media focused on key information around the usage of appliances.

Provided by Gas Safe Register, who co-ordinate Gas Safety Week, we shared this article of theirs that deals with their theme for this year – checking – and is more relevant to fixed site settings.

Having delved into cylinders and appliances, it was then time to focus on maintenance and servicing. Again we shared a Quick Guide to LPG Maintenance and Servicing, full of helpful tips on the subject. On social media we ran another quiz dealing with matters of maintenance and servicing and we also shared some quotes provided to us from some of the gas engineers we work with as part of the NCASS Gas Engineer Partnership.

Although LPG Gas Safety Week is only one week out of the year, gas safety is something that needs to be considered all year round. The consequences of unsafe LPG practices could be fatal and it is an issue we at NCASS are passionate about. As well as the Safe Use of LPG in Mobile and Outdoor Catering training course we created to help individuals increase their LPG knowledge, we have been running a series of LPG centred workshops for Environmental Health Officers.
