Aim of the course

The course provides an overview of basic food safety matters.  It is a great introduction to food safety training.  It is the starting point for anyone who wants to work in catering, or who needs to refresh their food hygiene knowledge. It will enable these staff to understand the basic principles of food safety to help them carry out their tasks more safely and to recognize food safety hazards.  

Learning outcomes & Objectives

After completing the course, the learner will:

  • Understand the importance of good food hygiene.
  • Understand the causes of food related illness.
  • Understand the different types of food contamination.
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic food hygiene practices which include: Good personal hygiene, Avoiding contamination, Keeping food at safe temperatures, Effective cleaning.

Assessment criteria

20 multiple choice questions on a 20 minute timer. The pass mark is 15/20 (75%). Remember, there’s no limit on re-takes.

Course delivery method

The course is delivered online via our custom built training system. An internet connection is required for all NCASS Training courses.

Certificate

Upon completion of NCASS Level 1 Food Hygiene training you’ll receive a personalised A4 certificate.
